Today we travelled to the Imperial War Museum. The IWM focusses on the Great War and the Second World War. There is a special display to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great War. It was interesting to see how the British viewed their involvement and the involvement of us colonials!
The Museum has a number of interactive displays (lots of blending of film, sound and hands-on activities). Australia receives a couple of 'honourable mentions' ... as much for supplying beef, wheat and wool as for providing 5 infantry Divisions and the Light Horse!
The Second World War display was about the traditional soldiers, tanks and battles... and there was an outstanding display on the British Homefront.
After the IWM, we ventured into the Underground for a trip to Kensington Palace. Kensington was the birthplace of Queen Victoria and also where she was raised until becoming Queen. The display was very interesting and respectful. Kensington was the Palace of Charles and Diana. T
here was a display of Diana's fashion. The 80s gave us some interesting fashion choices! More to be pitied than scorned.
Tonight we're off to a show at the Garrick Theatre. Even though Les Miserables is running, we decided to go with something very British... Let It be!- A musical tribute to the Beatles.
Woweee you guys are certainly covering some territory. Bet you are sleeping well at night. From the pics it looks like you have snagged perfect weather. I love reading your blog. I am learning heaps!
