Sunny Day in London

Day 3 in a sunny London. Today got to a high of 16 and overnight of 5 degrees. Today was a day of culture and history. We started our day on the subway to downtown Leicester Square where we collected our three day London Pass that allows us to enter some of the bigger attractions around town.
The culture component of our day was enhanced with a couple of hours in the National Portrait Museum, we got to view some wonderful art works not to mention some amazing picture frames - lots of gilding. No pictures allowed inside.
More walking exploring lanes and quaint shops.

On our list was the massive book store FOYLES - point of interest the street outside Foyles was bombed and the Army Engineers bulit a Bailey bridge over the crater that became known as "Foyles Bridge". Peter was very restrained but still enjoyed some time in the gardening section -  ok just kidding !!!
We then travelled by double decker bus (top level  - of course) along Oxford Street to the famous store Selfridge"s. I had read his book and watched the tv shows so it was great to see it for real.

"Sherlock" inside 221B Baker Street

We got to visit Sherlock's home and see where the detective and Dr. Watson lived fictionally for almost 25 years. The house was built in 1815 and represents an authentic house of the period.

And so ends a wonderful day.

  3. Hi Karen and Pete,
It is a glorious day here today but I would love to be seeing the places where you are. Looks like the weather has been kind to you too considering London's reputation for rain and more rain. Looking forward to more photos. Dale
