Day 2 in London.
We thought we would go for a wee walk in the Kensington area. We started with the Albert and Victoria Art Museum (because the queues tothe Natural History Museum were too long). Some fascinating and beautiful art!! From there, we continued to walk up Cromwell Rd. Eventually arriving at Harrods. Fortunately, it was Easter Sunday, and the store was closed.
Then it was onto the Underground to Hyde Park Corner: here we found Wellington's Arch. Close by was the Australian Memorial for WW1 and WW2. The commemorative wall lists all the names of Australian towns that gave up their sons... some of the letters are highlighted so that Battle Honours can be seen.
Given we were in Hyde Park, we thought we would pop up to Buckingham Palace and see if Liz and the kids were in. Apparently not!
The next best thing to do was to call on the PM. But he wasn.t in either. He seem to be having a function for the Police. There was no shortage of bobbiess coming and going from 10 Downing St.
The Cabinet War Rooms beckoned. This was a well presented and fascinating story of the rooms where Winston Churchill and his Cabinet ran WW2. The underground rooms had essentially been abandoned when the war finished. We stayed in the museum for over two hours.
Next it was a walk to the Thames and the Parliament Buildings... "look, Big Ben!!"
Lastly, we thought we would see what was happening at Piccadilly.
We ended up seeing a lot more than initially planned! A great day!!
What an amazing day! Very satisfying to get to see all those things in one day. Great photo at the palace and classic Big Ben clock. Harry is here in Oz, by the way. You must have passed him in the air.
ReplyDeleteBusy day for you but seems the weather is good.
